To say something has just happened, use tá + person + tar éis + verbal noun. If there is an object, it goes before the verbal noun and is joined by "a", which softens the verb's first letter — the opposite order to English.
Examples
- Táim tar éis teacht abhaile.
- I have just come home.
- Tá sí tar éis an leabhar a léamh.
- She has just read the book.
- Tá sé tar éis a shaol a athrú go hiomlán.
- He has just changed his life completely.
The mistake to avoid
Putting the object after the verbal noun ("tar éis léamh an leabhar") — in Irish the object comes first, linked by "a".
