Use the copula with as: Is as Éirinn mé, literally "is from Ireland me". The country often takes a special form after as - Éire becomes Éirinn, An Spáinn stays An Spáinn. For a town, as alone is enough.
Examples
- Is as Éirinn mé.
- I'm from Ireland.
- Is as an Spáinn í.
- She's from Spain.
- Is as Gaillimh mé.
- I'm from Galway.
The mistake to avoid
This uses is, not tá - origin is identity, and identity always takes the copula.
Where this fits in
Greetings & introductions, Irish Gaelic A1: Say hello, give your name, ask someone else's, and where they're from. Notice how the start of a word can soften (séimhiú) after certain words.
