Some German verbs need an extra pronoun pointing back at the subject: mich, dich, sich, uns, euch, sich. The pronoun comes right after the conjugated verb, and it must match the person - ich duschE mich, er duscht sich. The dictionary form shows this with sich in front (sich duschen).
Examples
- Ich dusche mich jeden Morgen.
- I shower every morning.
- Er zieht sich schnell an.
- He gets dressed quickly.
- Wir müssen uns ein bisschen ausruhen.
- We have to rest a little.
The mistake to avoid
When another object follows, the reflexive switches to dative: "Ich putze mir die Zähne", never "mich".
