After sein an adjective takes no ending at all: ich bin müde, sie ist gestresst. But a small group of physical states puts the person in the dative instead of making them the subject: mir ist kalt, mir ist schlecht, ihm ist warm.
Examples
- Heute bin ich müde.
- Today I am tired.
- Mir ist kalt.
- I am cold.
- Sie sind glücklich mit der neuen Wohnung.
- They are happy with the new flat.
The mistake to avoid
Ich bin kalt says you are a cold person - the one you want is mir ist kalt.
