A group of Finnish feeling verbs has no subject at all: the person who feels goes into the partitive (minua, sinua, häntä) and the verb stays permanently in the he/she form. So 'I regret' is literally 'it regrets me'.
Examples
- Minua kaduttaa, etten opiskellut enemmän nuorena.
- I regret that I didn't study more when I was young.
- Häntä harmittaa tuo päätös yhä.
- That decision still annoys him/her.
- Minua väsyttää tämän kaiken jälkeen.
- I feel tired after all this.
The mistake to avoid
Turning yourself into the subject ('minä kadutan') - with these verbs the experiencer is always partitive and the verb never changes person.
