To say what is done without naming who does it, either add -s to the basic verb (betale → betales), typical for general rules and habits, or use blive plus the past participle (blev løst), typical for a single concrete event. Danish also uses man ("one, people") to the same effect.
Examples
- I Danmark betales skatten hver måned.
- In Denmark the tax is paid every month.
- Der drikkes meget kaffe i Danmark.
- A lot of coffee is drunk in Denmark.
- Problemet blev løst i går.
- The problem was solved yesterday.
- I Danmark betaler man høj skat.
- In Denmark you pay high tax.
The mistake to avoid
Using the -s passive for a one-off finished event, where Danes say blev + participle.
