Hours are feminine in Catalan, so they take la or les. Say és la una only for one o'clock, and són les + number for every other hour; add del matí, de la tarda or del vespre to say which part of the day.
Examples
- Quina hora és? — És la una.
- What time is it? — It's one o'clock.
- Són les tres.
- It's three o'clock.
- Són les vuit del vespre.
- It's eight in the evening.
- El museu obre a les deu.
- The museum opens at ten.
The mistake to avoid
Learners say *és les tres*; only one o'clock is singular (és la una), all other hours use the plural són les.
