A yes/no question keeps the word order of a statement and only changes intonation. For anything else, open with a question word: qui, què, on, quan, com, per què, quant.
Examples
- Parles anglès?
- Do you speak English?
- Com et dius?
- What is your name?
- On vius?
- Where do you live?
The mistake to avoid
Per què (why) is two words; perquè (because) is one. Speech does not distinguish them - the answer does.
Where this fits in
Greetings & introductions, Catalan A1: Say hello, give your name, ask someone else's, and where they're from.
