Spanish has three distances, not two: este (here by me), ese (there by you) and aquel (over there). Each agrees with its noun - este/esta/estos/estas. To ask a price, use ¿cuánto cuesta? for one thing and ¿cuánto cuestan? for several.
Examples
- ¿Cuánto cuesta esta camisa?
- How much is this shirt?
- Quiero ese, no este.
- I want that one, not this one.
- ¿Cuánto cuestan los zapatos?
- How much are the shoes?
The mistake to avoid
Cuesta or cuestan follows the THING being bought, not you - two shirts cuestan.
