A noun ending in a vowel adds -s; one ending in a consonant adds -es. The article changes with it, so el becomes los and la becomes las. A word ending in -z swaps it for -c before the ending: lápiz becomes lápices.
Examples
- Tengo dos hermanos y tres primas.
- I have two brothers and three cousins.
- Los hoteles están llenos.
- The hotels are full.
- Quiero dos cafés, por favor.
- I'd like two coffees, please.
The mistake to avoid
The article has to move too - "los hotel" and "el hoteles" are both wrong.
