Romanian has three plural endings and which one a noun takes depends on its gender. Masculine nouns generally take -i, feminine ones take -e or -i, and neuter ones take -uri. The ending is part of the word - learn it with the noun.
Examples
- Am doi frați și trei verișoare.
- I have two brothers and three cousins.
- Hotelurile sunt pline.
- The hotels are full.
- Aș vrea două cafele, vă rog.
- I'd like two coffees, please.
The mistake to avoid
-uri marks neuter nouns, which is a gender English does not have - see the note on gender in this unit.
