Norwegian has no special polite verb form. It adds gjerne to vil instead: jeg vil gjerne ha. Jeg vil on its own sounds like a demand. Kunne du and kan jeg få are the equivalents when you are asking someone else to act.
Examples
- Jeg vil gjerne ha en billett tur-retur til Bergen.
- I would like a return ticket to Bergen.
- Jeg vil gjerne reise på første klasse.
- I would like to travel first class.
- Kunne du si meg når toget går?
- Could you tell me when the train leaves?
The mistake to avoid
Gjerne goes right after vil: jeg vil gjerne ha, not "jeg gjerne vil ha".
