Norwegian pairs each place with a fixed preposition. Work and school take på: på jobb, på skolen. Town takes i: i byen. Til marks the destination of a journey: til Bergen. Hjemmefra means away from home and takes no preposition.
Examples
- Jeg går på jobb klokka åtte.
- I go to work at eight o'clock.
- Barna går på skolen hver morgen.
- The children go to school every morning.
- Vi går hjemmefra klokka sju.
- We leave home at seven o'clock.
The mistake to avoid
På jobb has no ending, but på skolen does - these pairings are fixed.
