In the -요 register a question looks exactly like a statement and is marked only by rising intonation: 커피 좋아해요 is "I like coffee" and 커피 좋아해요? is "do you like coffee?". Question words - 뭐, 어디, 언제, 누구, 왜, 어떻게 - sit where the answer would go.
Examples
- 이 음식을 좋아해요?
- Do you like this food?
- 뭐 먹고 싶어요?
- What do you want to eat?
- 어디에 가요?
- Where are you going?
The mistake to avoid
A question word does not move to the front - it stays in the slot its answer would occupy.
Where this fits in
음식과 주문, Korean A1: Order in a café, ask for things politely, talk about favorite foods, and ask for the bill.
