To say "X is Y", put the noun first and attach 이에요 if it ends in a consonant, or 예요 if it ends in a vowel. Korean has no word for "a" or "the", and the verb never changes for I/you/he - only the ending matters.
Examples
- 저는 학생이에요.
- I'm a student.
- 이름이 뭐예요?
- What's your name?
- 저는 한국 사람이에요.
- I'm Korean.
- 제 친구예요.
- He/She is my friend.
The mistake to avoid
Learners say 학생예요 - after a consonant it must be 이에요.
