Greek verb endings already say who is acting, so the subject pronoun is normally dropped: μιλάω means "I speak" with no εγώ needed. Use εγώ, εσύ, αυτός, αυτή only for contrast or emphasis - εγώ μιλάω, αυτή όχι.
Examples
- Με λένε Άννα.
- My name is Anna.
- Εγώ μιλάω αγγλικά, αυτή όχι.
- I speak English, she doesn't.
- Είμαστε από την Αθήνα.
- We're from Athens.
The mistake to avoid
Using εγώ in every sentence sounds insistent, as though you were contradicting someone.
Where this fits in
Greetings & introductions, Greek A1: Say hello, give your name, ask someone else's, and where they're from.
