Before an adjective, zu means "too": zu groß, zu teuer. Genug means "enough" and comes AFTER the adjective, as in English: groß genug. To ask for another size, say Haben Sie das eine Nummer größer?
Examples
- Die Hose ist zu lang.
- The trousers are too long.
- Die Jacke ist nicht warm genug.
- The jacket isn't warm enough.
- Haben Sie das eine Nummer kleiner?
- Do you have this a size smaller?
The mistake to avoid
This zu is not the zu of zum Bahnhof: before an adjective it only ever means too.
Where this fits in
Colours, clothes & likes, German A1: Name colours and clothes, buy something in the right size, and say what you like and don't like.
