In a German statement the conjugated verb is always the SECOND element, whatever comes first. Put something other than the subject at the front - a time, a place - and the subject moves behind the verb to keep that slot.
Examples
- Ich komme aus Spanien.
- I come from Spain.
- Heute arbeite ich zu Hause.
- Today I'm working at home.
- In Berlin wohnen viele Studenten.
- A lot of students live in Berlin.
The mistake to avoid
"Second element" is not "second word" - Am Montag counts as one element, so the verb still follows it.
