For a yes/no question, move the verb to the very front: Sprichst du Englisch? For anything else, start with a W-word - wer, was, wo, wann, wie, warum - and the verb comes straight after it, in second position.
Examples
- Sprichst du Englisch?
- Do you speak English?
- Wie heißen Sie?
- What is your name?
- Wo wohnst du?
- Where do you live?
The mistake to avoid
German has no "do" in questions - the verb itself moves instead.
Where this fits in
Greetings & introductions, German A1: Say hello, give your name, ask someone else's, and where they're from.
