Some common verbs change their stem vowel in the du and er/sie/es forms only: tragen becomes du trägst, er trägt; sehen becomes du siehst, sie sieht; nehmen becomes du nimmst, er nimmt. Ich, wir, ihr and sie (they) keep the normal vowel.
Examples
- Heute trägt sie ein blaues Kleid.
- Today she's wearing a blue dress.
- Was trägst du heute Abend?
- What are you wearing tonight?
- Im Winter tragen wir Mäntel.
- In winter we wear coats.
The mistake to avoid
Ich trage, never "ich träge" - the change never reaches ich.
