The two verbs you cannot avoid are both irregular and worth memorising outright. Haben: habe, hast, hat, haben, habt, haben. Sein: bin, bist, ist, sind, seid, sind. German uses haben where English uses "to be" for age and hunger.
Examples
- Ich habe einen Tisch reserviert.
- I've reserved a table.
- Haben Sie Brot?
- Do you have any bread?
- Ich habe Hunger.
- I'm hungry.
The mistake to avoid
It is ich habe Hunger, never "ich bin hungrig" in everyday speech.
Where this fits in
Food & ordering, German A1: Order at a café or restaurant, ask for the bill, and talk about basic food and drink.
