In German, he and she are used for things as well as people: the pronoun follows the noun's gender. Der Park becomes er, die Bank becomes sie, das Kino becomes es. So Wo ist die Post? - Sie ist da drüben.
Examples
- Der Park? Er ist gleich um die Ecke.
- The park? It's just round the corner.
- Die Bäckerei ist neu. Sie ist sehr gut.
- The bakery is new. It's very good.
- Wo ist das Kino? Es ist in der Stadtmitte.
- Where is the cinema? It's in the town centre.
The mistake to avoid
Calling everything es is the English habit - der Supermarkt is er, die Schule is sie.
