Finnish weather verbs stand alone with nobody doing them: sataa, tuulee, paistaa. To say what falls, add it as the subject: sataa lunta. For a condition, jos takes the present tense on both sides.
Examples
- On satanut aamusta asti.
- It has been raining since morning.
- Jos huomenna sataa, jäämme kotiin.
- If it rains tomorrow, we will stay at home.
- Aurinko paistaa, joten menemme ulos.
- The sun is shining, so we are going out.
The mistake to avoid
Never add a subject to sataa - the verb carries it alone.
