Finnish marks how complete an action is through the object. The partitive - kahvia, ruokaa - means some of it, or an action still going on. The total object with -n means the whole thing, finished: juon kahvin means I will drink the coffee up.
Examples
- Juon aamulla kahvia.
- In the morning I drink coffee.
- Syön lounaan kahdeltatoista.
- I eat lunch at twelve.
- Luen kirjaa joka ilta.
- I read a book every evening.
The mistake to avoid
Luen kirjaa is reading at it; luen kirjan is reading it to the end.
