Finnish has no verb for have. The owner goes into the adessive -lla and the thing becomes the subject of on: minulla on rahaa. In the negative, on becomes ei ole and the thing shifts to the partitive: minulla ei ole rahaa.
Examples
- Minulla on tarpeeksi rahaa.
- I have enough money.
- Meillä ei ole aikaa tänään.
- We do not have time today.
- Onko sinulla kuitti?
- Do you have the receipt?
The mistake to avoid
The verb stays on whatever the owner - minulla on, meillä on, never "minulla olen".
