A Finnish adjective copies the case and number of the noun it describes, right through all fifteen cases: iso talo, isossa talossa, isoja taloja. That is why an adjective can look as unfamiliar as the noun it belongs to.
Examples
- Asun rauhallisella alueella.
- I live in a quiet area.
- Naapurissa on iso puutarha.
- There is a big garden next door.
- Pidän vanhoista taloista.
- I like old houses.
The mistake to avoid
Both words change together: vanhoista taloista, never "vanha taloista".
