To ask whether someone has ever done something, Dutch uses wel eens in the middle of the sentence: heb je wel eens gegeten. The answer for never is nog nooit. Both sit before the participle, which stays at the end of the clause.
Examples
- Ben je wel eens in Spanje geweest?
- Have you ever been to Spain?
- Ik heb nog nooit haring geproefd.
- I have never tasted herring.
- Wij hebben dat restaurant wel eens geprobeerd.
- We have tried that restaurant before.
The mistake to avoid
Nog nooit is the answer to wel eens - not "niet wel eens".
