Dutch suggests with Zullen we + infinitive at the end ("Zullen we naar de film gaan?") or Laten we + infinitive ("Laten we morgen beginnen"). Both send the infinitive to the end of the clause. To soften a suggestion, add misschien or even.
Examples
- Zullen we zaterdag naar de film gaan?
- Shall we go to the film on Saturday?
- Laten we morgen liever beginnen.
- Let's start tomorrow instead.
- Wat vind je van een koffie na het werk?
- How do you feel about a coffee after work?
The mistake to avoid
Zullen is not the future here - it is the invitation. "Zullen we eten?" asks whether we should eat, not whether we will.
