Which word you use depends on whether the noun is a de-word or a het-word: deze and die for de-words, dit and dat for het-words. To ask a price, say Hoeveel kost het? or Wat kost dit?
Examples
- Hoeveel kost dit overhemd?
- How much is this shirt?
- Ik neem die, niet deze.
- I'll take that one, not this one.
- Wat kosten deze schoenen?
- How much are these shoes?
The mistake to avoid
Deze brood is wrong because brood is a het-word - it must be dit brood.
