Dutch has two negatives. Geen negates a noun that would take een or no article at all - Ik heb geen tijd. Niet negates everything else and normally goes at the end of the clause, or directly in front of the word it targets.
Examples
- Het is nog niet één uur.
- It isn't one o'clock yet.
- Op zondag werk ik niet.
- On Sundays I don't work.
- Ik heb geen tijd.
- I don't have any time.
The mistake to avoid
"Ik heb niet tijd" is wrong - a bare noun takes geen.
