Omdat turns what follows into a subordinate clause, so its verb moves to the very end: omdat het kapot is. Want means the same thing but keeps ordinary word order. Dat and hoewel behave like omdat.
Examples
- Ik klaag omdat het pakket kapot is.
- I am complaining because the parcel is broken.
- Het was een misverstand, want ik heb het bericht niet gelezen.
- It was a misunderstanding, because I did not read the message.
- Ik denk dat het een fout was.
- I think that it was a mistake.
The mistake to avoid
After omdat the verb goes last, however long the clause gets.
