The Dutch imperative is simply the stem of the verb with no ending and no pronoun: ga, neem, sla af. For politeness with u, add -t and the pronoun: gaat u rechtdoor. Separable prefixes still jump to the end.
Examples
- Ga rechtdoor en neem de tweede straat rechts.
- Go straight ahead and take the second street on the right.
- Sla bij het station linksaf.
- Turn left at the station.
- Gaat u hier naar rechts.
- Go to the right here.
The mistake to avoid
No -t in the plain imperative: ga, not "gaat", unless you are using u.
