In a Danish statement the verb must be the SECOND element. If you begin with something other than the subject - a time phrase, a place, an adverb - the subject jumps to just after the verb.
Examples
- I går tog jeg toget til Århus.
- Yesterday I took the train to Aarhus.
- Om mandagen kører bussen klokken otte.
- On Mondays the bus leaves at eight.
- Nu kommer toget.
- The train is coming now.
- På hjørnet skal du dreje til venstre.
- At the corner you should turn left.
The mistake to avoid
Keeping English order after a fronted phrase ("I går jeg tog toget") instead of swapping verb and subject.
