Adverbial connectors like derfor, desuden, dog and derimod count as the first element, so the verb follows immediately and the subject comes after. The conjunctions og, men and for do NOT count as an element - normal subject-verb order continues after them.
Examples
- Derfor er jeg uenig i forslaget.
- That's why I disagree with the proposal.
- Desuden koster løsningen alt for meget.
- Besides, the solution costs far too much.
- Jeg forstår argumentet, men jeg er ikke overbevist.
- I understand the argument, but I'm not convinced.
- Han blev hjemme, for han var træt.
- He stayed home, for he was tired.
The mistake to avoid
Treating derfor/desuden like men ("Derfor jeg er uenig") instead of putting the verb straight after them.
