Danish does not have a special polite verb form. It adds gerne to vil instead: jeg vil gerne have. Jeg vil alone sounds like a demand. Kunne du and må jeg are the equivalents when you are asking someone else to act.
Examples
- Jeg vil gerne have en billet tur-retur til Aarhus.
- I would like a return ticket to Aarhus.
- Jeg vil gerne rejse på første klasse.
- I would like to travel first class.
- Kunne du sige mig, hvornår toget kører?
- Could you tell me when the train leaves?
The mistake to avoid
Gerne goes right after vil: jeg vil gerne have, not "jeg gerne vil have".
