If you say when something happened, Danish uses the simple past: i går besøgte jeg. If you leave the time open and only report that it happened, it uses har plus the participle. That is why sidste weekend takes rejste, not har rejst.
Examples
- Sidste weekend rejste jeg til Berlin.
- Last weekend I travelled to Berlin.
- Jeg har besøgt mange museer.
- I have visited a lot of museums.
- I går mødte jeg en gammel ven.
- Yesterday I met an old friend.
The mistake to avoid
A named past time blocks har: i går rejste jeg, never "i går har jeg rejst".
Where this fits in
Talking about the past, Danish A2: Tell stories about yesterday, last weekend, and life experiences using datid (simple past).
