Russian keeps не on the verb and adds the negative word as well: ничего не понимаю, никто не отвечает, никогда не работает. Dropping the не is an error. With a negated verb the object also shifts to the genitive.
Examples
- Я ничего не понял из его сообщения.
- I did not understand anything in his message.
- Никто не отвечает в службе поддержки.
- Nobody is answering at customer support.
- Это не работает со вчерашнего дня.
- It has not been working since yesterday.
The mistake to avoid
Two or even three negatives are correct here, unlike in English.
Where this fits in
Телефон, сообщения и мелкие проблемы, Russian A2: Звонить и писать, извиняться, разобраться с недоразумением и попросить помощи - будни, когда что-то идёт не по плану.
