Russian has two verbs for going on foot. Идти is one specific trip happening now or in one direction; ходить is going repeatedly or there and back. The same split runs through ехать and ездить for travelling by vehicle.
Examples
- Сейчас я иду домой.
- I am going home now.
- Каждый день я хожу на работу пешком.
- Every day I walk to work.
- По субботам мы ездим к родителям.
- On Saturdays we go to our parents'.
The mistake to avoid
Каждый день я иду is wrong for a habit - that one needs хожу.
