Russian reports symptoms with у меня and the thing in the nominative: у меня температура, у меня кашель, у меня насморк. There is no verb at all in the present. Being ill in general uses я болею or я болен and я больна.

- My son has had a cough since Monday.

- Do you have a headache?
The mistake to avoid
No verb is needed here: у меня температура, never "у меня есть температура".
