To ask whether someone has ever done something, Russian uses когда-нибудь with the past tense. The answer for never is никогда plus не. And to say something is absent, use нет with the genitive: у меня нет времени.
Examples
- Ты когда-нибудь был в Санкт-Петербурге?
- Have you ever been to Saint Petersburg?
- Я никогда не пробовала борщ.
- I have never tried borscht.
- У меня сегодня нет времени.
- I do not have time today.
The mistake to avoid
Нет is followed by the genitive, never the nominative: нет времени.
Where this fits in
Talking about the past, Russian A2: Tell stories about yesterday, last weekend, and life experiences using the past tense. Russian past tense is gendered — verbs change form for masculine/feminine speakers.
