Adding 주다 to a verb shows the action is done as a favour for someone else: 해 주다, 도와주다, 고쳐 주다. It is what makes a request sound considerate rather than blunt, and the polite request form is -아/어 주세요.
Examples
- 걱정하지 마세요, 제가 해결해 드릴게요.
- Do not worry, I will solve it for you.
- 내일까지 고쳐 주세요.
- Please fix it by tomorrow.
- 도와주셔서 감사합니다.
- Thank you for helping me.
The mistake to avoid
드리다 replaces 주다 when the favour is for someone senior to you.
