Eclipsis puts a new letter IN FRONT of the first consonant, and that new letter is the one you pronounce: c becomes gc, p becomes bp, t becomes dt, b becomes mb, d becomes nd, g becomes ng and f becomes bhf. It follows i, ar an, and the question word an.
Examples
- Tá mé i gCorcaigh.
- I'm in Cork.
- An bhfuil tú réidh?
- Are you ready?
- Tá sé ar an mbord.
- It's on the table.
The mistake to avoid
The original letter goes silent - gCorcaigh is said "gorkig", with no k sound.
