About nine French verbs in ten end in -er and share one set of endings: drop the -er and add -e, -es, -e, -ons, -ez, -ent. The -e, -es and -ent endings are all silent, so je parle, tu parles and ils parlent sound identical.
Examples
- Je parle français et anglais.
- I speak French and English.
- Où est-ce que tu travailles ?
- Where do you work?
- Nous habitons à Lyon.
- We live in Lyon.
The mistake to avoid
There is no "-ing" tense here: je parle covers "I speak" and "I am speaking" alike.
