When something goes wrong by accident, Spanish avoids blaming anyone. It uses se, then the person it happened to, then the verb agreeing with the thing: se me rompió el móvil. The object is the subject, so a plural thing takes a plural verb.
Examples
- Se me rompió el móvil esta mañana.
- My phone broke this morning.
- Se nos perdieron las llaves.
- We lost the keys.
- Perdona, se me olvidó llamarte.
- Sorry, I forgot to call you.
The mistake to avoid
The verb agrees with the lost thing, not with you: se me perdieron las llaves, not "se me perdí".
Where this fits in
Teléfono, mensajes y pequeños problemas, Spanish A2: Llamar y escribir, disculparse, aclarar un malentendido y pedir ayuda: la vida diaria cuando algo no sale como estaba previsto.
