To say what is done rather than who does it, Greek doesn't use "be" plus a participle — the verb itself takes a second set of endings: -ομαι, -εσαι, -εται, -όμαστε, -εστε, -ονται. If you do name the doer, add από plus the object form.
Examples
- Το θέμα συζητείται σε όλα τα μέσα.
- The issue is being discussed in all the media.
- Οι αποφάσεις παίρνονται από την κυβέρνηση.
- The decisions are taken by the government.
- Αναγκάζομαι να διαφωνήσω μαζί σου.
- I'm forced to disagree with you.
The mistake to avoid
Building a passive with είμαι plus a participle on the English pattern — the ending alone carries the passive.
Where this fits in
Κοινωνία και απόψεις, Greek B2: Discuss social issues, debate for and against, and talk about media.
